Exploring talent and abilities for the Morochos' kids

Exploring talent and abilities
As our kids grow we are learning their talents and strengths so that we can train them in the knowledge of God. Our kids had been involved in several activities.

Hope homes school Co-ops dessert contest
This semester Joshua began his kindergarten in the home schooling setting.  To stimulate fellowship with other homeschooler children, we join “Hope” a group of homeschooling families.  Under the supervision of our good friend Melinda, Joshua made a delicious dessert which he named “Jello Sprinkle” because he decorated with colorful sprinkles. The dessert was made of whipped cream, pineapple chuck, and jello power. The time for announcing the winners came, we were chatting but what a surprise Joshua Morocho was called to receive his recognition for the first place and most fashionable in the category K-3. It was a big
surprise for all of us.

Joshua piano recital 2010 fall
During his free time, Joshua practices piano. He has been taking piano for three semesters. It has been fun to see his progress, but challenge for both Joshua as he practice and Vicky supervise him. The first recital Joshua played with his teacher, the second time was planned to play alone, but it turns out, he was very nervous in from a big crown with big people as he commented. This time, Joshua played with Vicky. The
piece is called “Jingle Bell”

Bible Scripture Memorization
Another talent God has given to Joshua is Bible scripture memorization. Joshua has memorized several scripture passages.  It has been delightful to hear him quoting bible verses since he was three years old. He enjoys going around reciting his memorized bible verses to friends around the campus. But one thing he has tried but unfortunately without success is recite to a big crowd. Just recently he tried to do it but failed again. This time he said “I can do it since I am five now.” The first time he tried it, he was four years old.

World Vision Project
Joshua has a tender heart for the needy people. A few months ago, he began a challenge in his life. World mission displayed in Baptist Temple Church a boost with needy children from all over the world. Vicky and Milton approach the boost to see the display. Joshua right ask us what it was about. We explained him, so he immediately grabbed a photo of child and he did not wanted put it back. He said he want to support that child. Since then, he has selling goodies to support his friend , Siphelo, from South Africa.

A calling to serve ...

Milton is from Ecuador and Vicky is from Taiwan. On Nov. 22, 2004 we got married and answered God’s call to serve at Rio Grande Bible Institute as missionaries. We have now been here for six years. Milton’s primary job is teaching in the Bible school and language school. Vicky was initially a video editor for Video Hope Ministry; now that we have three children, she is focused on our family and teaching our children at home. We home school our five-year-old son Joshua. God has been faithful in our lives and allowed us to experience His grace. As we look back over the past six years, we are so glad that we made the decision to serve Him. Following are Milton’s and Vicky’s autobiographies.

Milton:
I am from Ecuador and the fifth of seven children. I grew up in a nice Catholic family believing that I could work for my passport to heaven, so I tried my best to earn salvation. This formed a barrier between God and me, and I didn’t feel I needed to receive Jesus to be saved.  In September 1993, I attended a Christian youth fellowship, and by listening to two songs, God put in my mind the need to receive Him in order to be saved. That night, I decided to accept Jesus as my personal Savior. In 1994 I came to the U.S. to study at Rio Grande Bible Institute in Edinburg, Texas. In 1998 I graduated from Rio Grande with a BA in Theology. Then I moved to Oregon to learn English because I wanted to study at Western Seminary. In 2001 I began my classes at Western Seminary and on December 12, 2003, completed my program with a Masters Degree in Exegetical Theology.

During my time in Portland, I became involved in ministry with international students, and in the last year of my studies at Western Seminary, God put in my heart the burning desire to prepare leaders for the Hispanic world. It is my concern that there is very rapid growth in Hispanic churches, but a lack of prepared leaders for them. This led to my decision to serve at Rio Grande Bible Institute, where I have been accepted as a teacher.

Vicky:
I am from Taiwan and the second of three children.  I came to the U.S. to go to college, graduating from Marylhurst University in 2003 with a degree in cinematography.  My family believes in worshiping ancestors, but in 2001, after learning much about Jesus, I decided to receive the Lord Jesus as my Savior and give my life to Him.  Soon I got involved in the leadership of my church, and I learned that there is nothing more precious than serving the Lord.  In 2002, I decided to serve the Lord with my skills in cinematography and music, while praying and seeking God's will for my future.

Early in 2003 I heard about Video Esperanza at Rio Grande.  I was so excited because it was just what I wanted to do.  I believe video can be a great evangelizing and teaching tool for sharing the Gospel and training Christian leaders.  After I got married, I started praying with my husband about where we could serve together with our expertise, and God opened the door for me to serve at Rio Grande Bible Institute as a video editor in the video department.

Conversion of Vicky’s parents.

2010 was a very special year for us.  The best thing that happened was the conversion to Christianity of both Vicky’s parents.  We have seen how God has answered our prayers. Since 2005, several groups of people have been praying for Vicky’s parents’ salvation.  Over the last three years God has provided Christian friends who have shared the gospel with them, but their journey to conversion began after they left Texas, back in January of this year. No too long after Chinese New Year (February 14), Vicky’s dad developed severe pain of his lower back.  At first he thought it was just muscle pain, but things became worse; soon he was not able to get up from bed and could hardly walk. Vicky’s mom took him to the hospital and after several exams, doctors found cancer in his bone marrow and ribs.

The first diagnosis was that the cancer was widespread in his bones. We all were shocked with the diagnosis of Vicky’s dad.  To make things worse, the doctor told us that his cancer was already in the last stage so it was untreatable, and he suggested taking him to a hospice.  This was not easy for Vicky; she went to her knees to look for comfort from the Lord. Each time she talked to her family in Taiwan, tears came on both sides of the conversation.  In the midst of uncertainty, Vicky believed that God was doing something in her family.  The first days in the hospital were crucial; it was a time of life or death.  It was there that Vicky parents felt the real impact of death. That confrontation led them to seek refuge in God. One day, over the phone, Vicky’s parents told her that they wanted to receive Jesus Christ into their hearts.  After that, they prayed every day.  For Vicky’s mom, the only thing that enabled her to endure through all of this was God, who comforted her as she prayed every day in her distress.

After transferring Vicky’s dad into other hospitals, they finally discovered that the cancer’s origin was in the colon.  God blessed Vicky’s dad with a wonderful doctor to treat him. God also used Vicky to encourage her parents. All the time that Vicky’s dad was in the hospital, she called her parents daily to read the Bible and pray with them. The joy they had regardless of what they were going through was clear evidence of the transformation God did in their lives.
In the summer, we all went to Taiwan to visit Vicky’s family. When we first saw her dad, he was very weak, but amazingly, he gained strength, although he still needed to stay in the hospital.  As soon he got well, he asked for water to be baptized.  On June 10, Vicky’s parents made public announcement of their faith by receiving baptism in the church they now attend.

After more than 15 chemotherapy and 25 radiation treatments, Vicky’s dad is in the process of recovering. We are thankful for many things. We have seen a miracle that God has done for his own glory.  During the time of treatment, Vicky’s dad’s reacted well to the medicine.  He had no vomiting and didn’t even lose his hair.  He is also in good spirits.  Please pray for Vicky’s parents, that God will use them as great witnesses for many of their unsaved family members. Vicky has many uncles and aunts who worship idols and are also superstitious.  Please also pray for Vicky’s parents’ spiritual growth.

Milton's ministry

Rio Grande Bible Institute is more than just a Bible Institute, it has four different ministries. These include a Bible school which offers a BA with an emphasis on Missions, Christian Education, or Pastoral; the Language School, a program of two intensive semesters of Spanish study; Radio Esperanza (Hope), a nonprofit radio station that is dedicated to sharing the gospel and serving the communities on both sides of the border; and a correspondence school, which serves believers around the world who cannot come to attend the Bible Institute.  I serve in Rio Grande Bible Institute as Bible Teacher and student council counselor.
Bible Teacher

I teach Theology II, which covers the doctrine of man, sin, and Christ. In this class, we study the creation of man, original sin and the effect of sin on the human race. We also learn who we are and what we can do to fulfill our humanity, since man is created in the image of God.  With regard to the doctrine of Christ, we study his human and divine nature, his atonement sacrifice, resurrection, and his offices: prophet, priest and king.

In the Pentateuch class, we focus on the historical events of the Israelites: major characters, important places, and major themes of the books. As we study the books of the Pentateuch, we stress the character of God and we draw principles and apply them to our lives. My desire is not only to help the students know about God but to get to know Him in a more intimate and personal way so that we can serve him with passion.

Internship

The Summer Practical Training course helps the student to explore and discover his/her strengths for future ministry as he/she serves under the supervision of a local leader. The internship is a three hundred and twenty hour program in which the student, with the agreement of the pastor, serves in accord with the needs of the church. To qualify for the internship program, a student must have completed the third year of school. I am the supervisor of this program; I help the students to find places for their internships, counsel them, and make agreements with the pastors with regard to the students’ ministries.

Spanish Language Teacher

In Beginning Conversation, students use all the knowledge of the language to communicate. Vocabulary and basic questions on various subjects are learned in this class.  The course is arranged so that the student has the chance to participate. At the end of the course, students are capable of understanding questions and responding to them, but in the process, God also uses this time to shape the character of the students. Learning a language is not easy; patience and perseverance are important virtues in learning a language, and important for life and ministry.

Mission Trips

Each year I organize short mission trips during Thanksgiving and Easter breaks. We usually send four or five groups out each time.  Students serve the local churches in evangelism, teaching, and preaching, but many times, their ministries are tailored to meet the needs of the local churches. Mission trips give the students a broader vision and make them aware of the urgency of sharing the Good News. My responsibility is to find places of ministry, organize the groups, encourage them, provide transportation, and supply gospel literature and other items needed for the ministry. I also contact the pastors who host the students, to make sure they provide lodging and food for the groups while ministering.

Student Council Counselor

As student counselor, I coach the students to be more responsible men and women. They learn how to work in a team, to plan activities, and to delegate responsibilities. The four members of the student council are selected by the student body and serve a period of two semesters. We meet once a week to plan the activities for the school year; we organize several physical, social and spiritual activities to develop unity in the student body.
